Our Library will open on January 16, 2018

 

 

Description

The Library of the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Washington has over 6.000 books on fields as diverse as Italian and world literature, art, history, geography, archaeology, theater, music, cinema, dance, and teaching of Italian.

The library has also a rich collection of movies and other video material that includes Italian classics as well as recent releases.

Hours of operation (by appointment only)

 

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00am to 12:00pm and from 2:00pm to 4:00pm

The library will be closed on all Federal and Italian national holidays and during the months of August and December.

Access and consultation

The library is open to the public for on-site consultation free of charge.

The Library has a reading room equipped with a TV set and a work station for browsing our catalog.

The loan of books is permitted only to the “Amici dell’Istituto” (Friends of the Institute), upon payment of a fully refundable deposit that varies from $50 to $100 depending on the material that is being checked out (to become an Amico follow the instructions in the next section).

Some books, as well as all video material, are only for on-site consultation and viewing during opening hours.

In order to check out books, the Amici dell’Istituto must show a valid Library Card. The Library card, valid for 2 years, is strictly personal and non-transferable.

Amici dell’Istituto may check out one book at a time for a two-week period renewable for an additional week.
In the event that an item is lost or damaged, the user will forfeit the deposit.

How to become an “Amico dell’Istituto”

Join the “Amici dell’Istituto” for your one-way ticket to the beautiful culture and language of Italy. The Istituto promotes the best of what Italy offers by providing a wealth of information and presenting cultural events.

Joining is easy: please fill out the application form and return it with your minimum contribution of $50 by check only (we do not accept credit card or cash payments) to:

  • Notification of all events presented by the Istituto at its own premises
  • Ability to check out books from our Library (a Library Card is required)
